Supagas well placed to support Albany customers as ATCO phases out gas network

Supagas is ready to help Albany (WA) households and businesses maintain reliable gas supply following the announcement that ATCO will decommission its Albany LPG distribution network over a three-year period, with the phase-out expected to commence in the second half of 2026. The closure will affect approximately 8,000 businesses and homes currently using LPG from the network.

Supagas acknowledges the announcement has created understandable uncertainty for many customers – particularly around what’s involved in switching from the network to either bottled gas or a tank, and how to ensure continuity of supply. The company is encouraging those affected to seek early advice so they can plan a smooth changeover well ahead of any required transition window.

“As soon as this news surfaced, our priority was clear: keep hot water, cooking and business operations running – and help customers make a smooth transition as soon as possible to avoid disruption,” said Erol Arican, Managing Director, Supagas. “We’re already there on the ground servicing customers and ready to help Albany customers move to either bottled LPG or an LPG tank with practical guidance, safe set-up and delivery they can count on. We’re fast to respond, easy to deal with, and here for Albany for the long term.”

Gas Energy Australia (GEA) said in a statement that the LPG sector is primed and ready to support customers through the transition, with bottled LPG widely used across Australia as a practical, proven option for homes and businesses – particularly in regional areas.

“A transition to bottled LPG will be the simplest, cheapest option for customers impacted by the Albany network phase out,” said GEA Chief Executive Officer, Jordan McCollum, “customers can keep on using their existing appliances avoiding costly, time-consuming appliance replacements.”

For many customers, switching can be straightforward. LPG, whether supplied in bottles or larger tanks, provides a reliable gas flame for cooking and heating and can be a cost-effective alternative to moving fully to electricity, especially where upgrade costs may be significant. Supagas will assist customers to understand site requirements, installation options and safe changeover steps, including referrals to licensed gas fitters where needed.
