At Supagas, the procurement team in particular have been working hard over the past 12 months, initiating several projects to reduce Supagas carbon footprint and energy costs. From December 2021 to April 2022, 23 Supagas Branches have been fitted with solar power systems. The latest results from August 2023, as highlighted in the table below, the power generated to date equivalent to the number of tress planted or cars taken off the road, the annual carbon abatement and the number of km driven for one year.
Solar Generation Metrics Data | |
Annual Carbon Abatement (Tonnes CO2) | 364 |
Cars Driven For One Year | 79 |
Km Driven By Gasoline Car | 1,444,420 |
Tree seedling grown for 10 years | 5,604 |
In addition, Supagas offices have been fitted with high output LED lighting, thereby, reducing the business energy consumption further, whilst lowering costs and increasing the quality of lighting. The procurement team are now working with energy consultants to determine suitable sources to effectively generate energy, with an outlook to achieve net zero carbon emissions, as a long-term objective for Supagas. This will see the electricity supplied to Supagas originating from renewable sources such as solar, wind and hydro generation instead of coal. As we move closer to winter, the weather will continue to cool down with decreased hours of daylight, and thereby solar power generation will decrease until we approach the warmer months, however, solar power will continue to be generated.
Environmental responsibility is one of the numerous projects the procurement team are managing, as the overall initiative will positively impact the organisation and the environment. The team is currently working on solar upgrades for Supagas Adelaide, Darwin and Ingleburn sites to assist with increased generation of solar power through the solar units. The projects started up in early 2023, as the ongoing cooperation and support of all is vastly important.
