Supagas CO2 Plant Project

January 1, 2026

During December, Supagas entered in a strategic agreement with Manildra Group to turn the soil on a state-of-the-art CO2 plant at their Shoalhaven Starches integrated manufacturing facility in Bomaderry, to produce 100 per cent Australian made, food-quality CO2 for the domestic food, beverage and hospitality markets.

“We’re delighted to today announce the start of construction on Supagas’s world-class facility which will substantially reduce our waste stream from the plant by removing up to one hundred tonnes of CO2 per day from the atmosphere.

This is a win-win situation, which will compliment our paddock-to-plate production process, by further value-adding to create a range of food and beverage products for local industries,” said Aaron Ticehurst, Manildra Group representative.

Designed and installed by industry leaders in CO2 construction, Australian-owned GLP (Gas Liquid Processing), the plant will produce food-grade CO2 to create dry ice for transporting frozen food, bubbles in carbonated drinks in the hospitality industry, improve the shelf life of foods through Map Gas, among other uses.

Supagas’s Supply Chain Manager, Anthony Gstalter said using excess CO2, from the fermentation process instead of starting from scratch multiplied the environmental benefits.

“Supagas currently burns natural gas to produce CO2, so the recovery of CO2 from the Shoalhaven Starches operations will enable these other operations to be phased out, further reducing greenhouse gases and other emissions to the atmosphere.”

The CO2 plant forms part of Manildra Group’s ongoing commitment to innovation at the Nowra facility, which continues to set the global standard for sustainable manufacturing as part of the all-Australian family company.
