Yes, they can: Supagas' superpower

Since its inception in 1968, Supagas, formerly Australian Forklifts, has evolved with the industry and adapted to service a wider range of clients.

National Operations Manager Anthony Gstalter tells Energy Today that the need for customers wanting a wider range of products resulted in an Industrial Gas Plant being built in Dandenong was just the beginning.

As Supagas grew, so did its capabilities and services. Part of its 55 year timeline, Helium and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) filling facilities were added along with cylinder testing and a refurbishment Plant to cater for all types of vessels and cylinders.

“In 1997, Supagas NSW and Supagas QLD, trading under Renegade Gas at the time, were established as a separate entity, initially selling and refilling forklift gas from its original site in Wetherill Park, NSW” Gstalter says.

“After significant growth across all gases and across all of NSW and QLD Supagas (Renegade) had branches in most parts of NSW, ACT and QLD. Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation (NSHD), the fourth largest gas supplier in the world acquired Renegade Gas and Supagas.”

Gstalter says this acquisition has now made Supagas an integrated national company servicing all of Australia.

Today, the business has continued to expand across Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Northern Territory, and is a leading supplier of LPG, Industrial, Medical, Specialty, Hospitality and Helium gases in Australia.

“We are a fast-growing nation-wide company and are rapidly building a reputation for growth and success based on an exceptional ‘yes we can’ customer service offering and quality product in the highly competitive market,” he says.

Supagas has multiple distribution centres, branches and agencies growing nation-wide and is able to provide reliable delivery along with personal responses to queries, ensuring quality service every time.

The company’s state-of-the-art facilities allows it to offer multiple gas types and gas products, as well as run specialised laboratories to mix and test Specialty gases. As a result, it has allowed Supagas to better service its customers’ needs and requirements.

Olga Lonsdale, Account Manager for Supagas’ Oil and Gas division, says the company is growing rapidly, with the business investing strongly into capital projects in Australia.

Lonsdale says the main challenge Supagas has faced over the last few years is freight issues which has impacted many businesses worldwide.

As the industry begins to evolve, Supagas has noted the growing buzz around net-zero, lowering emissions, and the term renewables growing.

Gstalter says the company is progressive in its energy transition in manufacturing Hydrogen at its’ Melbourne Plant.

Hydrogen gas can be supplied at different purity grades for various purposes for commercial applications such as scientific analysis for a wide range of analytical equipment.

Hydrogen is in demand, with expected growth over the next few decades. However, though there are challenges in the market, Supagas strives to achieve its goals with consideration of costs to ensure Supagas remains competitive in the market.
